It's ok OP if you get big $$ to go there; otherwise, not worth it to pay the private school money.

We looked at Dennison. DD got accepted with merit aid, but not enough to equal the cost of in-state tuition at home, so she's going to our state U. She liked it, but it's quite rural. The professors and campus are impressive, the students a bit less so. I'd say there are some very bright kids who are lured by merit $$, which Dennison has lots of, but the average student seemed, as a PP said, like a B student. The campus and facilities are very nice. Great food! It's in a tiny town outside of Columbus. My next-door neighbor's kids went there and loved it. They got lots of merit $$. I wouldn't go there if you want an urban atmosphere, but for a kid who wants the small town life, I'd say it's a very nice school. There's been some problems with drinking in recent years, but the school is cracking down on it. But then again, most schools have problems with drinking, so that's not unusual these days.

Same poster, almost all of them went to private high schools.

I am a lawyer in my mid forties and have a young colleague who graduated two years ago from Denison. She is very bright, has an amazing work ethic, is social and fun, and writes well. She comes from money but does not act entitled and she loved Denison and raves about the alumni network.

I know it is a sample of one, but seeing her at work has made me put Denison on the list of schools to consider for my own kids.

We visited Denison a few months ago. If you haven't visited, I recommend it. It is one of the most gorgeous campuses I've ever seen.

It's also in a lovely, tiny village. T-I-N-Y. That will appeal to some and not to others.

Alumni here.

I can tell you that my friends and I had an excellent experience there. You get all the touted benefits of a small liberal arts school--opportunities for research, small class sizes, etc.

In addition, Denison gives out a lot of scholarship money and there is money available to start new clubs, fund summer research, all sorts of things. Denison weathered the downturn well.

The campus itself is beautiful. It is a nice place to spend four years. If your child is interested, go visit, while school is in session if you can, to get a feel for it.

I loved it, graduated over 10 years ago. My neighbor's daughter (a city girl) goes there currently and loves it. They gave both of us great FA packages, which is one thing it's known for. Lots of opportunities for student research (co authoring published papers with professors), strong community service, great professors, lots of on campus activities. There's also a strong alumni network and internship program. The location is a small town, but one that has restaurants and a couple bars. The college runs vans to a larger town on weekends. I think that a visit will help your kid decide if it's the right fit.

If your DC grades and test scores are better than the range for this school, go there as opposed to here.
