Waxing would be best if she can handle it, but warn her ask her to let you know if she wants to stop. I would think an epilator would be more painful.

Maybe work on some strategies to help her grin and bear it.

I would go to a professional for threading. I think it takes a special knack. I personally find threading my upper lip more uncomfortable than a waxing. But, threading my brows is better than waxing my brows (and I think a better shape). Everyone will have their own pain threshold. I don't find a traditional bikini wax all the uncomfortable (the dentist is worse!) and it's really only if I'm going ALL clean that the closest in strip gets ya! You have to go to a GOOD salon/hair removal/skin care place where they use the good wax. Not some cheap salon.

I used an epilator as a teenager and never shaved thanks to my mom's thing against shaving. It hurt a lot at first but as you know, you get used to it after a few times. I was committed to it because my mom had convinced me about how awful it was to shave every few days, get stubble, etc. I think a teenager has to buy into it to be willing to tolerate the initial discomfort.

Not sure that Motrin will help much with the actual procedure but it may help with the discomfort after. I think it's worth a try.

No lol. Huge difference between stubble from electric razor and traditional razor--much softer with an electric. No ingrowns with electric either.

She doesn't need to shave before waxing. It'll be painful regardless.

If she doesn't want to deal with the pain of waxing then she shouldn't wax and can shave instead.

I know this wasnt your question, but I bleach the hair on my arms. It grows out naturally and I only do it every 2 months. You can find the hair bleach at most drug stores.

My DD is almost ready to start removing the hair on her lower legs (the hair on her lower arms actually bothers her more). I like the concept of waxing or epilating, in that the hair eventually becomes thinner and finer. But I also worry about the pain. Nair is out of the question because DD's skin is more sensitive than mine (and I can't use Nair). FWIW, I switched from a razor to an epilator about two years ago.

Is there anything that can make the first time waxing less painful? Advil vs Tylenol? Shave (and let grow to ~1/4") or clip first?

Recommendations for the best place for a first timer?
