There was a recent thread about waterfront Fort Washington, MD property for that budget. I'd do that and that way they get waterfront and still close to you.

You can get a nice condo for that in arlington.


With their knees/hips, that would be ideal, but I don't know if they're ready to give up a yard yet. My stepdad loves working outside and even does handiwork for people he used to work with. I tried telling him he could make at least $50/hr for the same work out here. (He currently charges his friends $20).

If they change their minds about VA, Richmond is nice, and you can get a really nice house for much cheaper than here.

Or maybe somewhere in Woodbridge near the Potomac?

Easton Md on the eastern shore is lovely and very popular with retirees. Great arts scene plus water, golf etc. And inexpensive.

Not on the water front, but PA doesn't tax retiree pay. I know a few friend's who have parents living in (and loving) Gettysburg.

How about Gettysburg or Carlisle in Pa.? Lots of good nearby healthcare and the weather is very pleasant in the summers. Decent cost of living and low taxes. A lot of activities available though the colleges there.

About a 90 minute drive from the Md suburbs.

Are there any desirable locations where my retired folks can move to live within an hour or two of DC? They prefer Maryland to VA. Originally New Yorkers, but currently they live in Arizona, and need a East Coast home that is cooler in the summer, but still near great medical care.

I think they'd like to find a nice home for 500 - 800K. Are any of the towns particularly nice? I really don't know this area at all. Waterfront would be a plus.
