The Wiz, saw it after running away from home at 19 to be with man I loved and my family disapproved of
Song that starts When I think of home.....made me weep uncontrollably. Couldn't pull it together for rest of show

Rent. Always made me sob. The AIDS generational-ness of it always got to me.

Book of Mormon.

No, seriously though, Les Mis (saw while pregnant for 1,000th time, disaster), and oddly The Lion King. I think I also cried at War Horse. And I almost cried at a Washington Ballet performance set to The Beatles too. I cry at shows, movies, music, and about my kid. Art and kids. And that's about it. Otherwise I'm incredibly stoic.

Seriously. The last 4 songs are a sob fest. Every one of the characters breaks your heart, and then they somehow put it all back together in the finale. Amazing, amazing show. And almost everyone cries. I read an interview with the actors, where they talked about having to avoid looking at the audience during the last 20 minutes so they don't lose it, too.

Last show that made me sob was Next to Normal.

Wow!
Sounds like a good one.

Now let's hope it makes it to DC before 2020... Because that's about how long Tony Award winning shows take to come here. Humph.

OP here.
On the contrary: I absolutely do not seem to cry. That's why I hate to do it in public!

Miss Saigon.

Grown men from the Vietnam era crying like babies. What an incredibly moving show.

Les Miserables is by far my favorite and emotional theater experience.

Others: West Side Story
Rent
Fiddler on the Roof

My third time seeing Les Miserables. I knew what was coming up and started bawling when Fantine dies...and just never stopped crying.

Have you had a moving theater experience?

I saw 'Light in the Piazza' shortly after my mother died.
She had talked about wanting to see this show for years, despite never actually knowing what it was about.
To honor her, I saw it when I came to town; I was still actively grieving her death...

And what do you know it's about? A mother / daughter that can not seem to separate from one another. The daughter wants to get married and grow up and says to the mother, 'I can't let you go!' And the mother replies sadly, 'yes you can!'

And I wept in the theater! Just wept.

But it was also cathartic! Like so much theater.

Do you have a story to share?
