I have ceiling fans in all the bedrooms and love them. I believe I paid $75 each for installation (the pre-wiring was already in place though). I wish I had ceiling fans on the main level too.

Our house (also 8 foot ceilings) came with a 3 -blade lighted ceiling fan.
We get tons of compliments on it. It is not too heavy or ornate - rather less bulky with 2 fewer blades and has clean lines. I used to not like it in our Colonial style home but it has grown on me.
And it the breeze feels really nice.

Also have in bedrooms and love.

None of the fans are in a traffic pattern - what it would feel like to walk under...

We have 8 ft ceilings and have a fan in our family/eating room, one in our kitchen, and one in our tv room. And fans in each of our bedrooms. We are big fans of, well, fans. I'd like to think it keeps the costs down, we typically don't kick the a/c on until July and our power bills are typically in the range of 130-150 or so.

It's weird where I live not to have a ceiling fan. Living room, dining room, every bedroom, patio, garage.

I'm about to add one into the family room, it runs super hot in summer and very cold in winter. A fan is practical here!

No, not weird, they make fans that are closer to the ceiling than they used to.

Most fans today are designed to fit 8 ft. ceilings without a downrod.....

8ft ceilings and you run into safety concerns.

I meant living rooms and 8 ft ceilings.

Ceiling fans are lovely and functional. Great addition to any decor.

We have these in our sunroom, no light.

What's the cost of having someone install a
Ceiling fan in a room with no light in the ceiling?

I don't think it would be weird.

We are moving to a new house in NoVa. It has a/c. Would it be weird to have a ceiling fan in the living room (not formal, basically main-level family room). I've noticed they aren't as common as other places I've lived here. Not a light kit fan, we have recessed lights. Just for air circulation.
