These are great ideas. Also maybe you could play a long board game together on an ongoing basis, like chess or Risk or a big puzzle.

He's been depressed because he's a lost his best friend and he doesn't have any other friends so all he wants to do is sit around and mope. I want to get him out and out of this funk.

Kickboxing mom here...this is why we started going! We moved to a new school cluster and he lost contact with his friends. He was very mopey and moody for six months.

OP here, so I'm assuming that helped with his confidence and brightened his mood?

My son (now in grad school) and I used to cook a lot together. Since you said outside of the house maybe you could take a cooking class together. We also used to go to concerts and plays together.

He was not into competitive sports, but was happy to shoot hoops in the driveway with me after school.

My son isn't ball-team-competitive sporty. Still. we do athletic or outdoorsy stuff all the time such as hiking, camping, kayaking and cycling.

Also, we play really tame video games at night, like Marvel superheroes. DS is 12, and I'm a single mom.

Take a cooking class together

Go to a movie

He might enjoy the ropes course at Sandy Spring or going to a place like Earth Treks to try rock climbing even if he's not big into sports.

The Spy Museum, Udvar Hazy, the Cryptological Museum might be fun. When my nephews came to visit, they enjoyed their visit to Ford's Theatre.

I take both of my boys (younger one is 11) to laser tag a couple of times a year. Also lots of fun and pretty exhausting.

I like these ideas, I'll look into them!

I have a 13 year old son and I would like to find some activity ideas we could do together over the summer. He's not into sports so playing a sport is out. I would prefer something we can do outside of the home. TIA!
