I fully agree with this poster. Also, it seems that all the time that adults want to validate their prejudices, they mention their kids. hush OP, kids do not care about these things unless an adult teaches them to see things in a different way. Do not project on your kids and help them to be more open minded than you.
(i would have loved to hear my teacher's story of his/her previous life as a unicorn and choosing to become a teacher!! great topic for a story)
Since when did the definition of "open minded" include broadly accepting any crazy notion that comes along as though it is fact?

Exactly. OP, you are really exaggerating here. I don't think they are out putting up signs specifically looking for transgendered folks to apply.
That said, I would not be comfortable with it all for my kids.

This. I've already had this conversation with my 5 year-old, when he asked if boys ever grow up to be women. I said, "Yes, sometimes. But that won't happen to you unless you ask the doctor help you make it happen."

As to how I would feel: No problem. I have no problem explaining to my elementary school aged kids that sometimes how people feel about their gender doesn't match their body, and so transgender people have gotten medical care in order to fix that.

I would have no issue with this. No more than if I found out a teacher had a nose job or gastric bypass. Basically, the measures someone takes to feel good in their own bodies are not any of my business.
