Keep pieces you absolutely LOVE and know you'll be able to use. Sell everything else. It will be a new house and you'll love redecorating.

I buy and sell on Craigslist a lot. I often buy a piece, use it for years and then sell it for the same cost. I have a lot of fun with it. But I'm into the hunt and love decorating, so it all depends on you.

We are getting ready to start a major renovation on our house that will require our family to move out for up to a year. I am now trying to deal with current furniture and place everything into one of three categories:

-- Store for use in future house, because not needed/ no room in temporary quarters
-- Take with us to temporary quarters to use there, and decide at end of renovation if we want to keep it
-- Get rid of it (sell/ donate/ give to family) now

Any BTDT advice on how to decide? I've been too quick to get rid of certain pieces in the past and have regretted selling things. On the other hand, we don't want to pay storage $$ to hang onto things that won't work in new home. Nothing is super valuable; some things have slight sentimental value but I know that when we finally get to the decorating part of the renovation, we do want a new look from what we have now. Still, it's hard to envision how or if some of things things will be used. Thanks for any advice!
