Because our responsibilities as parents include making sure that our kids have a safe place to sleep at night, and an age appropriate level of supervision.
A 13 year old spending the night in the backyard with no shelter and no way to access the house, isn't safe.
He was in the backyard, not in a dark alley somewhere. How was this not safe? My son (age 6) LOVES sleeping out in the backyard in the summer.
