I'm getting ready to go on a weeklong business trip, and I'm freaking out. The kids will be with DH, but I've never been away for 7 nights before. I'll miss them terribly.

With three kids, I would leave them as long as I thought someone I trusted would keep them. Just not long enough for them to forget me completely.

Two weeks is long for children that age.

A friend of mine left her 3yo dd with grandma for a week to join her dh on a once-in-a-lifetime work trip to China. Grandma came and stayed in their house and kept up the regular routine. I think a week to 10 days is fine, especially for a special trip.

We left our kids for a week when they were 7 and 5 to go to Europe for our 10 year anniversary. They went with their aunt, uncle, and cousins to the beach on vacation for a week and had a blast. I was so nervous, but it was worth it.

Damn. Cut the cord, ladies. Your kids will enjoy some time away from you, too, you know.

4 days, until they are all over 10.

The longest we left our kids (the same age as yours) is two nights. For a truly exceptional trip I might leave them for a full week (with lots of back-up childcare help), but I don't think I'd leave them more than about three nights at this age.

Long weekend only

TRIP. Though we do ALWAYS travel as a trio. Unless one of us has a solo business trip.

I feel that two is the norm. Has anyone ever left their children for longer than two weeks?

Are you nuts? Two to three weeks is really long? I wouldn't leave teens for that long let alone a 2.5 year old.

At that age maybe a weekend. But honestly, we take the kids. We love and miss them.

2 weeks sounds good. Mostly because I think DH and I don't like trips more than 2 weeks (we've taken many). They aren't as enjoyable after 2 weeks.

We have never taken a trio without our daughter and likely won't until she's at least a teen. After all, she's part of the family too.

Two weeks? Three weeks?

Children are 2.5 and 5, boy and girl.

Would be watched by a combination of family members at a relatives house.
