Speak up, OP. It's usually awkward for the giver and the recipient when duplicates are given. My folks and my DH's mother always asks for gift ideas in advance, and it's greatly appreciated. My DH's dad never asks, and as luck would have it, often purchases a duplicate gift. Of course, we appreciate the thoughtfulness behind any gift, but no child needs or wants three T-Ball sets, three baby strollers, etc

Personally, when I buy gifts for children, I always ask the parents what they would like unless it's a birthday party gift for a classmate of my child. In that case, I include a gift receipt.

Agree with PP - might also want to suggest alternatives, or at least general categories of things your kid might need / want.

Of course speak up! They probably hinted at what they want to buy to find out if you already have it. So just tell them!

Why wouldn't you speak up??? I would be so pissed if someone didn't speak up and I wasted my money on things they already had.

My MIL and FIL hinted that they are interested in getting some gifts for our son.
The problem is that the item they are thinking for picking, we already have those.
Can I say something to MIL/FIL? And, what do I tell them???
