I am finishing my basement and installing all 6" LED with dimmers. They are great. Yes there are LEDs for 6' recess.

Note: make sure the contractor does not lay insulation near the recess buckets (potentially fire hazard).

OP here, thank you for the recommendations. Does anyone know the average cost of installing recessed lighting. I am replacing the ceiling and will bring an electrician before the new ceiling is installed.

Consider what type of light bulbs you want to use. LED floodlights use less energy and generate less heat, but for floodlights, they only come in BR30 (I think 4"?). 6" are usually incandescent or CFL, but incandescent in our experience gets really hot. If your basement is usually cool, this is not an issue. We had 6" recessed incandescent flood lights in our kitchen and in the winter, we liked the heat lamp effect. However, I've just changed them out to 4" LEDs and they are much cooler, but look a little goofy in the 6" holes. Oh well, I'd rather save energy in the light bulbs and keeping the kitchen cool.

We went with all 6". 8" is outdated and 4" is too much of a spotlight. 6" seemed to be a good, modern middle.

I am finally renovating my basement and I would like to install recessed lighting. I could have 6 larger lights or 8 smaller ones, not sure which one to go with. Also, is there anything I should be aware of while dealing with recessed lighting in the basement?
