The single mom I worked for found me on Sitter City!
Good Luck!

Ladies are gracious.

Clearly you are no lady.

Married people probably need sitters too. This isn't just a "single ladies" problem! (for the sad troll poster)

Go away, shut up, sit down, insert whatever you need to hear to disappear then DO IT.

Are you in a neighborhood that has block parties?

Our block has an annual party, and a huge benefit of this is that the moms of young kids get to meet the moms of high school kids. After ours (this last weekend), I now have 3 more potential sitters, in addition to the one that lives next door to us. (that we currently use.)

I've also asked friends to recommend people.

I've used high school kids who I found through the local listserve.

I've only had sitterss, never a nanny. I either go through recs from friends, hire the people that work at my son's daycare/after school program/summer camp, because they've already been vetted and he knows them, or I use college students that I know (I work on campus).

How did you find a reliable sitter, nanny, part-time nanny?
Your experiences in DC would be very helpful
