Shady grove multiple time, always a good experience but it is always a 4 hour ordeal.
In the past 2 years we go to emergency care on 118 and we are in and out much quicker.

We live in georgetown. Our pediatrician said Children's is the best - though it's across town. We've only taken our 2 year old once for a dislocated elbow and it was to Children's - excellent hospital and lucky to have it nearby. We were told Georgetown is second best.

OP here. Is that true? Suburban has a pediatric "wing" with about 10 rooms and a nurse's desk at the entrance with pediatric nurses. I assumed that the doctors there were also pediatric doctors but perhaps they are not.

We live in Silver Spring and have been to the Holy Cross ER twice. Not that impressed with the care but the wait times weren't that bad.

We are in McLean and used Georgetown when they were little- because that is where their doctors were too. When the ambulance came and took my DC to the hospital they took him to Fairfax. Otherwise, we would probably use Arlington if we were driving as it is closer. That is where my other DC had dental surgery and I had kidney stone removal surgery.

We've used Holy Cross and Montgomery General. While both have competent staff, the wait times at HC are ridiculous.

I've only ever had to take my kid to the ER once, and since he wasn't in imminent danger of dying (concussion) I went to Fairfax with the separate pediatric ER. I live very close to Virginia Hospital, and would go there for something where time is of the essence, or now that he's older, something basic like stitches or a broken bone.
Fairfax's separate ER was fabulous, and they had all the right equipment and staff available, which can be hit or miss at places without a dedicated pediatric ER. You do have to watch the billing, but that's true at all hospitals.

Fairfax. Separate children's ER that is fantastic.

Well, we live right next to Shady Grove and unfortunately my son has been in there about 8 times. It has a pediatric ER which is great. I've always been really happy with the care he's gotten, and he's been in there for RSV, croup, Parainfluenza, a viral infection in the hip bone, a broken arm, and other asthma issues. He's been admitted in the pediatric unit about 4 times, and that has been great as well.
It got rid of its Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, though, so if my son were in really bad shape (asthma), they'd have to transport him to a hospital with a pediatric ICU, and the closest are apparently Children's or Georgetown. So I don't like that aspect at all.

When your child(ren) has a medical emergency which hospital do you go to? Please state where you live, which hospital(s) you've been to and what you think of said hospital.
I'll start. We live in North Bethesda/Rockville. We've visited the ER twice in the last two years. Both times we went to Suburban in Bethesda. They have a friendly and competent staff, but they push for CT scans too much although that's probably true of all hospitals.
