Book is $10 used on Amazon. not unreasonable considering most single patterns are $5ish.

So, thanks for the links above. But, is there a pattern there? It links to a book. Don't want to buy an entire book of patterns.

It'd probably be easier for you to crochet then. You wouldn't even need a pattern. Just alternate blocks of appropriate house colors in either a half double or double crochet until you get it as long as you'd like, add a fringe, and call it a night.

Because it is a tube. There are ways to make tubes on straight needles, but it is much simpler on a circular.

Preferences aside, circulars are generally superior because while there is nothing you can do on a straight that you can't do on the circular, there are lots of things you can do on circulars that you can't on straights. Also on circulars your needle will never completely fall out as sometimes happens on straights

You are overthinking this. I knit Gryffindor and Ravenclaw scarves for my kids last year. I just bought some skeins of yarns that looked like good colors and knit garter stitch about 5-inch blocks of alternating colors until it was a good length. Then I tied on fringe. My kids are thrilled.

I'm sure Ravrelry has exactly what you are looking for. If not, any experienced knitter should be able to make up a scarf pattern for you once you identify the yarn. Lionbrand has good washable yarns in so many colors, try lionbrand hometown usa, maybe lionbrand even has a pattern on their website.
