The criteria vary from tribe to tribe. Some require 1/2 for membership, some only 1/32. Greatx2 is 1/16. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_quantum_laws

Also, South Asian genes don't somehow convey English-language spelling ability. It's effort, motivation, and persistence, just like with anything else.

I thought the cutoff was 1/16. But I could be mistaken.

Maybe you should ask them? And if a great-great-grandparent was American Indian, then the child IS part American Indian.

If you apply to a public school in your state and identify yourself as Native American, Oklahoma State admits you instead.

They might even tell some more people from the school to come over to your house to visit. They explain that they will educate your kids but it will be in another language.
