I would try children's place. They are the only shorts that have fit my slim-fit child.

Might be easier/less expensive to find a decent tailor who can take them in for you.

Old navy sells slim fit shorts online. The slim 14s are the only shorts my tall skinny 7th grader can wear.

OP here, and I know exactly what you mean! DD is a swimmer - think long (disproportionately long) arms. It's so annoying -- as is the selective enforcement on the part of the school. Argh.

I'm just posting here to support the dislike of the fingertip/shorts rule and the selective enforcement of the dress code.

Also, I can't find shorts for my thin 12-year-old girl. Size 10 is too short (by fit, not just by dress code), size 12 is too wide, and juniors size 0 fall off.

I have a very slim DD, 11, and gave up this spring and did Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger outlet (kids section). I hated to for a child (although they didn't end up costing much more on sale than Gap), but they were the only school appropriate shorts that fit, and I cannot find adjustable waists any more. If she's not too tall, Hanna Andersson is also a great, appropriate choice for classic, school appropriate clothes-- but they only sell the largest sizes online, so it's tough to fit if she doesn't already know her size. Good luck-- it's a tough age to find non-trashy but still trendy school appropriate clothes for thin girls.

Your daughter may not like this answer, but Justice actually has plain, dress-code-compliant shorts in slim that work. I just snip the shiny tags off the back. While few of my daughters friends still shop there, most have a few lingering items in their rotation. My daughter just wears what appears in the clean clothes basket.

Look at Macys.

Children's place has "bermuda" gym-style shorts (they come in pink, blue, gray and white, I think ... and maybe yellow). I think your child could probably fit in the size 14... my child is slim and fits the 10-12 size.

Target also has "bermuda" shorts that are similar sweat pants material. Green, gray, black, pink and purple, I think. These also come in a 14, but the 10-12 might work for you.

We are having trouble finding shorts that are long enough for school dresscode (to fingertips) but cool enough that DD will wear them. Another issue is that DD seems to be between sizes....too big for 10-12s (they are now skintight - which DD thinks is fine in theory but is realizing they aren't comfortable), but too small and thin for 14s. We have tried Gap, Old Navy, J Crew, Forever XXI, and American Eagle. What am I forgetting? Anywhere else anyone would suggest?
