Oh my god, that is GORGEOUS! I hate the dishes my mother left. We use them because I feel stuck. They're Noritake, so they may not be too difficult to off load. 12 place settings. I hate it. They are neutral beyond neutral, which in no way even reflects my mother's taste. She painted the walls of her home a spiced pumpkin and filled the space with eye-popping ethic art pieces. Maybe these dishes are what she used to balance things out?

Love love love our Villeroy and Boch. We don't call it formal though. I have the French Garden and we use it daily. Every one in my family has V&B. Parent's V&B is almost 40 years old and going strong. If you drop it, it will break (not always though on wood floors), but we've had very, very few chips. Highly recommend for every day use.

Love our V&B china. It is a less formal pattern (switch 3) but we have had it 18 years and use it every single day.
Our formal pattern is Lenox but we rarely use the formal china. I wish we'd spent the money on something else. I was warned of this by friends and family when we registered but DH and I are traditionalists and were sure everyone was wrong.
If I had it to do again, I'd look for a used set or take one that's been in the family (of which there were many).

For $890 to be worth it, the china would need to cook my food and wash itself afterwards.
