Black gray or red. Not brass

Check the door for a few days in the afternoon, if it's facing the sun painting it black or charcoal may be a really painful idea!

You hate brass because it's not real brass?

I personally love a slightly blueish green with the brick, but I'm from northwest Germany and that's traditional there. And anything but brass for the hardware.

OP here. Wow, all great suggestions. I appreciate it! I think I'm going to Photoshop these ideas and see which looks best to me and DH. I hadn't thought about black hardware, so I'm anxious to see an example. Off to Google now

Check with your HOA, if you have one. Many of them have restrictions on front door color.

Search "red brick house door color" on Google Images - there are a TON of example images and one will jump out at you. I am a big fan of using the door color to "pop" on an otherwise traditional house. It's just paint. If you hate it, you can repaint.
After looking at the photos on Google Images, I might go with a really true red (slightly on the cranberry side) with black hardware. Or maybe Oil Rubbed Bronze in case you want to paint the door black some day (which also looks nice).

HATE brass. It's dated and doesn't hold up well. It's not real brass and it discolors easily. Much prefer oil rubbed bronze, antique bronze or silver.
I did a dark gray door with ORB

You should think of colors in triplets (house, trim, and door/shutters). You have a pretty standard red/white/black set up. I would try a dark grey or dark green (to pop against the white). The particular shade can play off of the brick and mortar tones.

Echoing other posters, but I think black with brass would look lovely. Otherwise I'm also a fan of red doors on brick colonials, also with brass hardware. I've seen canary yellow look very nice, but I think it would depend on the specific color of your bricks.

I always love a deep red door on a brick colonial.

I'd probably paint it either a charcoal color or a muted grayish green with brass hardware (not cheap stuff). That may be too tame for you. If you want something bolder, deep red. Just stay away from garish colors.

Have a simple red brick colonial (older, not McMansion). Charcoal roof, white trim, no shutters. What color would you paint the door and what color/finish for the hardware?
First thought was black with brass, but that seems kind of boring... Thoughts?
