A bit of a tangent, but typing. Get your kid a typing game and teach him/her proper technique. This will pay off greatly!

Talk to her kindergarten teacher and ask for ideas. That should be your first stop--teachers often are surprisingly overlooked by us parents when we're wondering about tools to use at home. (But try to be open-minded if the teacher has reasons to dissuade you from doing too much over the summer for such a young student.)

Also if your child's school has a computer lab and the kindergarteners had computer time each week, ask the instructor who runs the computer learning lab for ideas on programs and online tools.

So my DD is almost finished with Kindergarten and I'm thinking about how she can continue to learn over the summer break. Specifically, I'm interested in how the Internet could be used in a constructive way to enrich and engage her during the months she is not in school. DH and I are part of Gen X and so the benefits of online summer learning\ lessons were obviously not available to us in kindergarten. DD is signed up for a few lessons in the community so she can have social interaction and direct feedback from an instructor.

Can anyone here share online courses/lessons that are targeted to early elementary students? Is there anything similar to coursers for children?
