It has worked out very well for our DS. He has developed strong attachments to the teachers as well as many of his classmates. Learning is fun and doesn't seem like learning and he has internalized many concepts about sharing and how to treat others. There have been times when we have tried to pick him up early to spend extra time with him and he asks us to wait because he is in the middle of something that has captured his interest. That says a lot to me.

I say avoid it.

You will be happy with WFCH.

It is what I would call a "warm" Montessori school. We have been very happy with it for both of our children, and our children are like night and day so we feel lucky that it's a school that's flexible enough to allow them both to succeed and grow. The only thing I am not crazy about is the small parking lot, but that's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

I'm glad to read so many good recs for WFCH. DS starts there this Fall and I have high hopes that he'll really enjoy it. I toured quite a few Montessori and traditional preschools (including Franklin, and while it was very nice and there was a lot to like about it, it wasn't quite right for us) and WFCH was the only place we put in an app. It seemed like such a warm place, and all the kids seemed happy in their work, I hope it works out well for DS.

I'll echo the positive comments about WFCH. We have had 2 children there for a couple of years now and they are happy and learning a lot. It's a warm and nurturing environment -- great teachers and friendly parents to boot.

Our child absolutely loves White Flint. I cannot imagine a more committed, passionate, and involved group of teachers anywhere. Our child has grown and developed enormously through her experiences there. I'll address the "neighborhood" issue directly: the school is located on busy Parklawn Drive, meaning that the outdoor space is limited. That is more than made up for by the extraordinary indoor space. Take a look for yourself: the students at WFCH are happy. It's an outstanding school about which prospective parents should have absolutely no reservations.

I'm curious, PP, why your friends told you to avoid it.

Our kids have been at White Flint about several months now and they LOVE it. We sent them there in part due to a recommendation from another family whose daughter was there. The teachers seem very nurturing and passionate about what they do, the kids are learning a lot, and they have really blossomed even in just the few months they've been there. In our experience, the teachers have been very accessible, and the school puts on regular programs for the parents to mingle and also for the parents to learn about child development and education issues. We also appreciate that the students are a very racially diverse group, which we believe is good for many reasons.

Some of my friends whose children attended the school told us to avoid it.

I was alarmed when someone told it wasn't in a particularly "good" area. Not sure what that means. We live in the North Betheda side of Rockville.

Our child has been at White Flint for more than two years and we love it! He has learned much about many things (Egypt, art, Russian and Spanish, earthquakes, plant life, math word problems, etc.) but mot importantly, he is happy and loved by his teachers. I would choose Franklin instead. Though they are sister schools, Franklin is way much better.
