So heres something I will never admit in real life. In my early 20s I dated a married man. He was really wealthy and gave out wads of cash often. He would say things like "go shopping on me" or "try ABC spa and think of me" or " why don't you go look at cars". It was his exit tool, one that probably worked on many women before and after me. I just decided to hoard the cash. I put it in an account and when we broke up it was around 33k ("dated" for about 2 years). I invested it in a risky tech start up a few years later (mid 90s) and got fairly lucky. I bought a house and have never had a mortgage all because of my whore self.

Burned SAHM here, who has an advanced degree. As someone who was cast aside when she got older and sagged, and who was replaced by a younger woman, I wholeheartedly second this recommendation

DS is at an independent school here in NWDC.

This manner of "keeping" a woman absolutely goes on in a SUBSET of private school world. My entirely non-scientific observation of the population in just one school reveals that the most common neighborhoods where you'd find this are

Kenwood
Somerset
Wesley Heights
Village of Chevy Chase

further, although these ^^^ women do have a degree from a top 25 university, they've frequently never actually had a true career. i.e., she went to U Penn, got a humanities degree, held a couple of fun, safe, not-terribly-demanding jobs that her mom or dad's connections got for her (at Kennedy Center, a gallery, in "marketing" in NYC). Then she met Master at age 26, got engaged, had first kid at 28.5 and has never worked a day since.

More women should consider post-nup agreements before becoming a SAHM. Doesn't necessarily need a bonus in it, but a post-nup would avoid a lot of the heartache around becoming a SAHM that you end up seeing.

I think it's vanishingly rare in the world the author described. There may be one or two. They probably have lonely lives in many ways: isolated from both the men and the women.

I assumed the whole bonus thing was some kind of prank the SAHM had put together to play on the budding anthropologist/reporter asking them so many questions.

Families making millions of dollars can't be so petty as to have wives bonuses, that is crazy.

Mistress Bonus is fairly common in DC.

Never heard of that before, and I was married to a man who made millions. But I can see how a man would encourage such a thing. I often did feel like a well paid employee with a lavish benefit package.
