I know that folks keep raising this. DC is *never* going to build a new middle school just because you don't like the perfectly good middle school that you already have. It is ridiculous to suggest it. Now overcrowding is another story. The argument for another high school is stronger. Though folks can rightfully point out that DC has lots of high schools with extra capacity, they are in parts of the city that are much farther away.

This! A petition needs to be started. I'm only in favor of a plan that provides significant benefit to DC kids. Otherwise, no way!
Petitions are for cowards and ineffective without matching testimony. Sign up, speak out and bring numbers. It can be surprisingly effective.

period of greater than twenty (20) years with the LSW. The Department of General Services will host a
public hearing on June 9, 2015 to discuss the surplus designation of the Hardy School and the intent of
the District to amend the existing lease of the school. The hearing will be held at the Hardy School multipurpose
room located 1550 Foxhall Road, NW Washington DC 20007 at 6:30PM.

Lab school has powerful friends in DC even though most students are from MD and VA.
DC residents or DCPS pays annual tuition over $30,000 for students to attend Lab. Compare this with the $9,000 DC charges out of state students to attend Ellington.
Students at the closest school -key- are in trailers. This decision is not being made with the needs if DC students in mind.

IIRC about a year ago the Council changed the law so that charters had to get first dibs. I'm not sure why that doesn't apply.
