As previously mentioned, a back-door Roth. This is a (legal and commonly used) loophole that lets even high-income households put money in a Roth, by first putting it in a nondeductible IRA and then shifting it to a Roth. Real estate.

We don't do well with stocks and have plenty in our 401K. We've been much more fortunate with real estate investments.

Annuity for additional income in retirement. Set it so that you get an income stream starting at a certain age.

after both 401(k)s maxed, max out ROTH IRA (backdoor), then $1200/mo in taxable index funds, $1000/mo to a 529, and around 900/mo in an online savings account.

Do you have kids? 529's are a good place to park some of it. Besides 529's and retirement, we put most of the rest in Vanguard mutual funds.

Brokerage account. We meet annually with our financial advisor to look at balancing, etc.

IRAs, 529, then into low-cost Vangurd index fund via brokerage account. Sometimes we'll buy individual stocks, but that is a tiny percentage of our portfolio.

We put ours into our IRAs after 401k (we get a match on all 401k contributions so it makes sense to put our money there first), then we put it towards our kids' college education. If we have left over after that, we usually add it to a mutual fund that we have.
