That's not true. PG has many highly rated elementary schools, middle school and high school are where the problems are. Specifically there are some highly rated elementary schools in Bowie, such as Heather Hills which has a great schools rating of 10.

I used to work there and lived in the following places: Fort Washington, Landover, and Upper Marlboro. Upper Marlboro and Ft Washington are two pretty nice places to live. Also Bowie, Greenbelt, College Park etc.

I honestly would not advise living in Suitland. It's very close to the area of DC that is not safe so a lot of crime filters over.

I used to commute to Suitland from Columbia and I know someone else from Columbia who works there. It's a 50-60 minute drive on an average day.

I would have to be so desperate to take a job in Suitland.

My DH works there, we lived in SW DC and the Navy Yard. It's about the best commute you can get and love in a nicer area, but school options are limited unless you do private or lottery in somewhere good. Now we live in NE DC because the commute to school was so long, it's 1 hr to Suitland from here and others who work there are nearby. If we hadn't gotten into a good school we probably would have moved to Calvert county. Alexandria is a bit of a reverse commute and not too bad either.

I am sure you can find people who live all over the place, but I have no idea where Suitland is located exactly and I have never heard it mentioned in these boards. So, what are good places to live if you work in Suitland (Fed) but you are not sure it will be a "forever" position. It can last 2 years, 5 years or 10 years (or more!).

Two children, one rising K and an infant. I am not giving any budget because ideally we would be looking (if at all) to rent first.
