Subject: Cheapest place for soil
The only problem I have found with the free mulch and compost is weeds. There are always weeds mixed in and it is a nightmare in the garden.

You could buy some vermiculite and peat moss to add to it, if you want to spend some money. Look on Craigslist to see if any local farmers are advertising compost, top soil, soil, square foot gardening mix, peat moss, vermiculite. I've gotten free compost off of Craigslist from local sheep farmers.

Nurseries will sell it by the yard but you have to pick it up.

You need soil. Not just compost.

I have two new raised beds and need a lot of soil to fill them. I saw Home Dept has 2 cubic feet bags for $8, the local nursery charges $12. Does it get any cheaper? Looks like I'll have to spend $80 just for soil.
