At this point, just put the seeds in the ground.

I've done this (but cover the top with saran wrap and poke a hole in the top for ventilation. I mostly use milk jugs like in this instructable http://www.instructables.com/id/Wintersowing-Tips-Preparing-Milk-Jugs/

OP again -

Also, fill the bottom with water - the cotton cord will soak up the water from below and keep the soil above damp as needed

I found this on pintrest and figured it was worth a shot. I was skeptical, but I wanted to get my little ones interested in growing things. I am an avid gardener, but have never once been able to start anything from a seed because I always forget to water properly.

This took about 10 minutes total per bottle, and I got damn near 100% growth on ALL the seeds I planted (5 different herbs, cucumbers & tomatoes).

Basically, you get a clear soda/seltzer bottle. Cut it roughly in half. Put a hole in the cap (I poked through with the scissors I used to cut the bottle), run a cotton cord through it so that half of the cord hangs out of the bottom and half is buried in the soil (this pic shows an orange cord - I just used a white "laundry line"). Fill the up-ended top with soil and plant your seeds. It will look like this:

It's not the prettiest thing in the Universe, but it's crazy effective. Just wanted to pass it on!
