ugly. The traditional one is better. The roof you're talking about is called a Mansard roof.

Ha ha, I hope not, I just bought one recently! I have one of those with a very steep, curved roof. I actually like the style fine. Also, lots of these in my neighborhood, where homes sell quickly, so I don't think we'd have a problem selling at all.

I guess it depends on what you mean by Dutch colonial, but in general I like them quite a lot and prefer them to regular colonials.

Real Dutch colonials are awesome. You're probably talking about the icky 1960s-1970s faux dutch colonials? Dislike.

Funny ... I would totally take the gambrel roof on a Dutch over an "American" colonial. Dormer windows on a Dutch colonial are so charming IMO. But glad you were able to make yours into something you preferred!

We bought a dutch colonial because the location, space and yard were fabulous. We didn't love the "dutch" but we were ok with it. 5years after we bought the house we decided to replace the metal siding on the house, new windows and a new roof. As we removed the siding we discovered that the "dutch" roof line was all an add on to a regular colonial. We were able to remove that part and we now have a colonial!!

I'm like you. They certainly aren't my favorite, but, if I loved the neighborhood, interior, etc., I would absolutely buy one. But I don't seem to have the same deal breakers that I see a lot of people on this Board mention. Although, my budget was more like $700-750 so I assumed there would be tradeoffs.

I love them, so to each their own. I think it would be muchc more attractive to most than a split level, a ranch or a raised ranch.

Looking at a Dutch colonial. Not my favorite style, but can live with it if location, interior space, and other features are attractive.

Concerned about future re-sale though. Would you consider buying a Dutch colonial? Would the style be a drawback and/or dealbreaker for a significant number of buyers?
