I was a vegetarian for over a decade. If I ate a hamburger, I would have had bad stomach pain all night. Your stomach has to get used to eating meat.

I'm not longer a vegetarian, but I still can't eat red meat (I don't like it and don't want to eat it). It's hard to explain that to people. If it's a dinner party, I will peck at the food and pretend.

The vegetarians I know (myself not one of them) would never do this.

Your not a vegetarian. You eat very little amounts of meat yearly. Just say you hardly ever eat meat, but aren't a vegetarian.

No. But I could see myself just telling people I was a vegetarian for convenience. It's easier to just say it then have to explain to acquaintances or strangers that you rarely it meat and why you aren't eating meat at this dinner/party/event/etc.

I'm a vegetarian except for the 1 or 2 times a year I cave and eat an Arby's roast beef sandwich, of all things.

I'd describe this person as "eating a vegetarian diet." A typical state rather than a life-rule.

Of course not.

No. I am a vegetarian. I haven't tasted meat in 23 years. If I ate burgers a few times a year I'd be someone who just didn't eat a lot of meat.

No, I would say you are not. There are lots of us who eat very small amounts of meat either for cost or health reasons. But we are not vegetarians.

Are you a vegetarian if you eat a Five Guys burger a few times a year?

Just curious, because someone seems genuinely confused on this point in another thread and I wonder if it is just me thinking the answer to this is obvious.

(I took this to a new thread to avoid further derailment of another thread)
