My daughter is 5 and I agree with this. Depending on the person's appearance/phase of transition, I'm not sure she would even notice anything. If the person's status was openly known, I would just have a simple talk with her about gender and answer any questions she has.

I would only be uncomfortable with it if my child was given before-after knowledge. For instance, when my child knows a teacher as one sex and the teacher "becomes" the other sex while teaching my child.

If the person was already transitioned, I don't see a problem with it so long as they don't discuss their transgendered status.

IMO, this is not an issue for a teacher to be exposing a child to or discussing with them. That is the parent's right/responsibility.

Why? The younger kids are actually probably less likely to notice anything different about a teacher who is transgender. Ms. Smith will just be Ms. Smith to them, at least if their parents don't spend time at home panicking in front of the kids about how Ms. Smith is really Mr. Smith. Older students are more likely to talk among themselves or notice things (even without parental influence) over a teacher whom they realize might be "different." Younger kids are just not going to notice or care themselves--but again, they sure willl be confused and will notice if their needlessly panicked parents put it on their radar for them.

This is just silliness. Seriously. There are REAL problems in the world, in our county in our school system. Why not use some of your energy on the real issues, not some sort of manufactured issues?

This is me as well. The conversation to explain this to my six year old is too mature for her age bracket. Rather than confuse her, which would be unfair to her impressionable mind, I'd rather the transgendered teacher (presumably a mature adult, as opposed to an immature child) have some empathy and respect, and stay away from young children.

My oldest child is 8. I would be fine with it at every age we've experienced so far and, I assume, every age in the future. We know transgendered people and we've talked about it and it's not some shameful secret that my kid needs to be protected from.

My children are 3 and 6. I would be fine with it.
