OP Here - Yes I was thinking of doing a big basket of stuff. She just got a new favorite tea and purchased 6 months worth. Maybe I'll get her a new travel mug with the grandkids pictures on it. She's not a crossword puzzle person but loves things from Lush. I don't think they have candles but I have some essential oils and can make one (she loves DIY stuff).

I think my SIL is handling the food (she found a meal service). Snack are a great suggestion thanks! Maybe I'll get a little puzzle too, as long as it fits on the tray.

Some nice lotion and beauty type products. It just feels good to pamper a little.

A nice candle to keep on her nightstand.

New pajamas. You spend a lot of time in the same pajamas and lounge clothes so a fresh, new pair feels like a little luxury.

Snacks. Not much, she might not be very hungry depending on medication. But it is a nice treat and nice to not have to get up to the kitchen.

Also, since you said you'll be there the weekend after you can help get her some of the things that she needs. Sometimes it isn't until you are in the thick of it can you realize the little conveniences that would be so nice to have.

What about adding one of those comfortable pillows with arms? We call them "husbands" but I'm sure that's something my mother made up!

If she has the iPad, why not talk to her about apps that can be added. You can walk her through them prior to the surgery. I'm currently obsessed with Star Mania, a real time suck. I play while sitting in the backyard in the evenings just to unwind. Some people have the same relationship with Sudoku.

Someone mentioned Netflix. HuluPlus is also very good.

She'll be on pain meds so nothing that requires too much focused energy should be good.

We call them Husband pillows too!

OP Here - Great ideas thanks! I'll see what app's she might enjoy. I think she mainly uses it for internet browsing and facetime, maybe youtube.

An Amazon GC so she can put books on the kindle app on her iPad.

Heating blanket.

Batch of hearty muffins for breakfast or snacks.

Nope (they'll drive each other crazy). FIL will be there and I think she said they are having a nurse come by once a day the first 2 weeks. We'll see her the weekend after, but they live 5 hours away.

She does not, but maybe I'll see if she's interested in any of those.

MIL is having her hip replaced end of next month and I want to put together a bunch of stuff for her. My FIL is... well an ass. I'm sure she won't starve, but I'd like to make sure she's comfortable. She's not very tech savvy but has an iPad (so I was thinking an iTunes gift card since she likes to read) and some sort of tray for while she's bedridden. Thoughts? Suggestions? Her dr. told her she'll essentially be bedridden for the first 2 weeks.
