Set the precedent now, it will be hard to change later. I do something on Saturday with mom/mil then Sunday is mine.

Don't do it all the same day.

Tell them that DH's First Mother's Day gift to you is a quiet day just the three of you without the usual hussle and bussle of errands and such.

Do whatever you might normally do for them on a different day. Possibly let DH visit his mom Saturday while you do something for yourself!

I think most holidays can be celebrated whenever. But Mothers Day is different. You might get a pass because it is your first Mother's Day. But my guess is that now that you are a mother you will be expected to understand that you need to step up and celebrate your mom. After all this is year less than one for you but she raised you and now you get how much is involved. As for your MIL, that depends on your history.

Either do something Saturday or next weekend. Take Sunday for yourself and your family.

Of course she doesn't have to do this.

Plan separate events over the weekend. Make them near you (or at your house, if you wish) and blame the baby and his/her napping schedule.

I would try and schedule something on Saturday. Take one to brunch and another to dinner. Make reservations and just call them and say "I made reservations at X on Saturday for us to take you out to a Mother's Day brunch/lunch/dinner."

DH can be blamed for planning a 'special day' for you so you won't have time on Sunday.

Schedule different days in the next few weeks to celebrate with them, and spend Sunday with your family (DH/DC).
