These do not get chewed up. Also the OT suggested gum for my child and he was allowed to chew gum in school. The gum did not work for us, but might work for another child. I think it was 1st grade when the OT suggested gum.

Some chewy tubes (That is the name brand) are strong as hell. I don't recommend the green Tees- I think having a hollow design makes it such that they can be torn up, if chewed carefully. My son could really shred the green ones with very careful bites. The red knobby ones are a favorite, but the p and q are not bad either.

That all said, he outgrew it- he's really into chewing the crap out of his finger tips, unfortunately, but hopefully this will pass as well.

BTW, teething rings are not good for this at all, I mean, they are meant for gums, right? My kid chomped straight through those things.

My DD was like this too..... She took on to chewing the chewelry and really was "ferocious" with it. But the bad thing is that she soon stopped and now back to chewing her hoodies, pens and coats. (she chewed through 2 coats last year and her third is fit probably for maybe one more month this year before its time to be binned!) She has even shunned away chewelry now....

Sorry for my piecemeal response. I wash them daily (sometimes just a rinse in the sink).

Some of the kid companion pendants are sturdier than others--the hearts are quite strong, the teardrop ones are softer. That said my DD prefers the softer ones.

That or a dog chew toy is the only things that come to mind. Better to chew something that was meant to be chewed.

Not to be snarky, but have you tried reverting to a teething ring? I wonder if the recent spike has to do with her molars coming in? My kid started chewing on his hands when this started to happen.

The chewelry didn't work that well for us, for the same reason. We have a very cute turtle necklace, that has no head because it was chewed off.
What worked for us? Gum. We buy Glee because it doesn't have artificial colors. You can get it at World Market or Amazon. If you don't care about mint flavor or artificial colors, you can just buy it at grocery store.

I would stick with the chewelry. It's much safer than the other things she could be chewing on.

If it were me, I would ride out the chewing "ferocity." I think this kind of sensory issue will calm down at some point and she will chew less or at least more discreetly. In the meantime, the chewelry will prevent your DD from chewing less safe items.

It's not sightly, but we know a kid with this sensory issue and my son chewed a bit too-- it's a need and will get better. You may try some crunchy foods-- raw carrots, chewy bagels, etc. you might even consider gum if your DD is mature enough not to swallow it.

I have a DD who only recently started chewing everything. Her glasses, pencils, pens, sweaters, books, sleeves and many other things. We have seen her OT and she recommends chewlery. So we started on this but she has really chewed it and really tried to chew it to shreds. And it seems that she is now "obsessed" with trying to chew it up and rather "ferociously" including in school and in public.

Would you guys recommend we take it away. Chewing her clothes and everything else was bad but at least she did try to be discreet. But with this, it has become its a go all out to chew toy.

Has it happened to any of you?


Also, do you have a few of these things handy. It is constantly in her mouth now and its wet and yucky and even if it falls to the floor/road, she will pick it up and continue chewing.

She's 6 and we have spoken to her but its not working.
