Maybe not guided games, but have fun water toys available that have prior lifeguard approval. Some pools don't like sprayers or things that bug other people. Whip out some new toys every 15 minutes.

I personally think it's fun if you play some games. At least have them as backup. Throwing pennies in the pool and diving for them is a fun game, sharks and minnows, an obstacle course, etc. Have small prizes for the winners.

I wouldn't force the kids to play, but I think most will want to. Games make the party more fun.

Let them swim especially if some of the kids don't belong or ordinarily don't go to a pool.

Bring along some beach balls, noodles, etc to liven it up if you want.

Planning a pool party for DD's next birthday at our neighborhood pool. Do I need to plan activities or can I just let them swim for a couple of hours and feed them lunch and cake?
