telephone interviews should not go over an hour. if they are 30 mins late, just ask to reschedule.

Yes, it is typical to allow about 2 hours for an interview. Leave about an hour, plus extra time for delays on your part, delays on their part or any situation that might extend the time. I've had an interview for 45 minutes that started 10 minutes late, then at the end, was told they were really interwouldested and asked if I could hang around to talk to another manager who might be using the new position. I stayed. Total time around 1 hr, 40 min from start to end. I did get an offer and have no idea if I would have gotten the offer had I not had time to stay to talk with the other manager.

I agree with the suggestion to wait and send the "I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to reschedule this for another time." message at the one hour mark. After one hour, it is understandable that you might not have a hour+ remaining to accommodate a lengthy interview or additional time. Earlier than that and it does sound like you didn't leave yourself enough time for the interview.

I'll do this... I was planning on being late (already) for the next event. I wouldn't say "I had another appt" but I DO have another appt and now i wonder if it's really nec. to be late for it. But, I'd rather be safe than sorry on this one and will take your advice about waiting to send at the 1 hour mark.

Don't "pull the plug" until it has been more than an hour otherwise if you say "I had another appointment" now, it may seem like you didn't schedule enough time to begin with. at the one-hour mark send an email apologizing if you somehow got your signals crossed and ask directly to reschedule for tomorrow.

OP here. I guess the question is, can I appropriately "end" the interview and decide to reschedule at this point and send a rescheduling email?

This is for a position I REALLY want but at the same time I'd prefer not to miss other important events for my current job for no reason...

It's a Monday. Your interviewer forgot. If you really want a shot at this job, be very gracious when this all gets sorted out.

I did send this about 15 minutes in... thinking of sending another before pulling the plug... but I really need to get across town and I'd hate to miss another meeting - or maybe I should just sitt here by the phone??

I would send an email now or later, it doesn't really matter at this point, politely asking when to reschedule.

Ive cheked and double checked time - 1130 EDT was about 40 minutes ago, right?

I was supposed to have a telephone interview today 30 minutes ago. Still hasn't called. How long do I wait? I already sent an email when she hadn't called 15 minutes into the meeting. The email from the interviewer arranging the interview doesn't have a phone number in the signature; I could probably track her down but it seems a little stalker-like. Any ideas? Can I send her an email now (or better to to wait a whole hour- in which case I'd have to cancel my own meeting)? What do I say!?
