Also, you may have to go to several therapists before you find one that works. And no, this is not easier than it sounds, and it's expensive too--many charge more for an initial assessment. But therapy is not going to be effective if it's not a good match and/or the therapist isn't really equipped to deal with your DD's issues.
I have a DD who has been in and out of therapy for close to six years, and I feel like we just found the right therapist this year.
If money is an issue or if anything happens to heighten your concern, you can get your child admitted to a psych ward because she is a danger to herself. You go in through ER typically. The ward stay will be paid by insurance and they will not let them leave without first lining up an outpatient therapist who takes your insurance.
Thanks! I realized this and have calls in to different groups in the area. I can figure out the price. DDs health is most important.
