I gave my mom a leather envelope for pictures. She loved it. She has gotten one for each of her friends as they became grandparents.

I tried to do any eye roll.....but maybe should have suggested a book on becoming computer savvy!

Gift card for photo printing. All the pics we have are electronic, and it's nice to be able to print some for long-term keepsakes. That plus a photo album to put them in.

Depends on how "practical" you want to go. The things I (as a mom) find most helpful to have at the grandparents house is a pack n play and a high chair. A lot of baby gear parents get picky about (car seats etc) so I wouldn't get those, but pack n play and high chair are pretty standard and uncontroversial.

Something more for grandma herself, an album or gift cert for shutterfly or another site where she can make an album.

If her grandchild is local or is will visit her frequently, useful baby gear. If not local/won't visit (and she can borrow, say, a pack and play from a friend or neighbor), maybe a digital photo frame so she can display lots of pictures in rotation?

It depends how close and involved the new grandma will be. As a grandma, I like having a playpen and change table. Also my own set of baby toys - rattles, Sophie the giraffe, etc. Baby washcloths, bibs, bath toys, board books, baby wipes......

Car seat base for her car? This is assuming she lives close enough to her daughter to occasionally be driving the baby around.
