Thank you - actually I had heard about FamilyFirst elsewhere and made my appointment this morning. I prefer the psychologist approach as I'm still trying to figure out my DC learning abilities / styles and could see doing other tests there if needed. For anyone interested they are in Tysons, which may be more accessible than GMU, and the cost is $450.

Also some of the local private schools' admissions pages have current lists of places that do the test. In fact if you google WISC mclean or something similar many of your top hits will be Congressional, Potomac, Holton Arms, etc and their lists.

CoGAT: 122
GBRS: 12

We were quite surprised as our oldest had similar test scores (never knew the GBRS since we had no reason to ask) and was accepted a few years ago. After finding this forum, we decided to appeal with WISC test results. I found GMU and FCPS' AAP websites mention of each other's programs a bit too convenient (I realize that I sound paranoid) so I wanted to find a test center other than GMU. We contacted Dr. Diana Dahlgren after reading about her here and were able to obtain an appointment over the weekend. She gave us scores at the conclusion of the test and said her written report would be ready in a few days. I found her to be friendly, and she offered a lot of insight into what I perceive to be a very secretive selection process. Our child who tends to be on the shy, quiet side had no problems working with Dr. Dahlgren.

We had a good experience with Dr. Paige Fegan at Family First Psychological Services for testing, but it wasn't for AAP - http://familyfirstva.com/
She's very good at establishing a rapport with nervous, antsy young kids.

I've thought this for a long time. It's a symbiotic relationship. GMU even wrote the "glowing" (??) report about AAP. Could that be because FCPS strongly recommends GMU for ($400) WISC testing? Conflict of interest, anyone? At the very least, FCPS should require an impartial testing service. The whole system is corrupt.

I swear this is a conspiracy between GMU and FCPS to bring in money for GMU. I'm kidding but there is a kernel of truth.

At this time of the yearIME, GMU has the fastest turn around times.

Unfortunately this seems like the standard procedure at most FFX county schools. A high WISC score sends a good message.

Who would you recommend? I only called Dr. Dahlgren and her cost is $475 which would be $95 more than GMU.

GMU if fully aware of the appeal deadline and will give you the latest time period your kid can take the WISC to receive the scores in time. Just call them and ask.

It's not the only acceptable route but the most effective route.

You need to provide new information for the appeal. It can be testing results. It can also be items other than testing results.
