My brother is 6'3" as an adult. One summer he grew five inches in three months. It was insane. He also at a ridiculous amount of food that summer.

I meant 'yes'!! There's truth to later puberty and overall taller growth.

Kids can grow many inches a year in puberty. Height at 11 predicts nothing.

The good news is that kids who start puberty later tend to end up taller than those who start early.

In my experience (and this is anecdotal based on things like watching my kid's soccer team grow) the kids who hit puberty later ended up the tallest.

My kid was growing like a weed by 11, past his growth spurt by 14, and will probably end up around 5' 7".

My stepson was 5'3" when he left for his mother's house for the summer when he was 14. He returned seven weeks later and was 5'6". No joke. Went from being shorter than me to taller than me in less than 2mos. He's now 19 and 6'1".

Rest assured, your 11yr old most likely won't be short forever. In the meantime, put some savings away to pay your grocery bill once those growth spurts strike! Trust me on this.

I just looked at the height percentile chart and from what I can tell, looks like 50th%ile kids grow about 2 inches every year from age 10 to age 15 to remain at 50th %ile for height. Total of 10 inches growth over 5 years total from 55 inches to 65 inches.

Boys often don't stop growing until their late teens, and it is normal for an 11 y/o not to have hit puberty. Don't worry!

DS is 11-yo and no sign of puberty according to his ped at last visit the other day. But he only grow < 1 in. last year! ped said not to worry he'd catch up when he hit puberty. i'm curious how much of 'catch up' is realistic - is 3 in a year for 3 years the norm? tks.
