Sorry, I was typing fast and was not clear. You daughter's friend's parents are reading her posts. So they will judge her based on her posts.

My teen swears, only slightly in front of us though, if he's re-telling a story that includes swearing. I dont say anything to him about it. My 10 year old though, he doesent swear but if he did I'd say something to him about it. Not allowed and not acceptable IMO.

OP here. I'm nervous that DD (who is in HS) will influence her little brother (late elementary). He already imitates her and does everything she does. DD will be applying for colleges next year, so I'll tell her that college recruiters may look at her social media and judge her if she swears.
It just all seems to start so much younger now!

Yes, my teens swear, but not that much - as did I at that age. I always tell my kids that I don't like it and that it's disrespectful to swear around adults, so they cannot do that. I figure that since I don't know when they are doing it and I can't control it, so there is no sense in banning it.

Oh god, my 10 year old is swearing. Drives me nuts. I don't think I'll ever curb it entirely. Focusing in appropriate venues/social settings now.

Funny parenting thing... I don't let my kids swear on Instagram, etc (family follows them)... but if they swear in real life I don't really care... unless it is directed at somebody.

I swore a ton as a teen, but not in front of my parents, teachers etc.
The important distinction is that the kid knows when swearing is appropriate or not.
My kids are not yet in the cell world, but I'd be inclined to tell my kids that texting fits into the "could be seen by adults" category and should fall under the "better not to use that word" rule.
