Totos are so expensive for a basement bathroom! Not sure how high end you're going OP, but there have to be more economical shitters out there.

We replaced all four of our toilets with toto. So much better then Kohler. They rarely clog and have a good flush. Kohler tends to send the stuff back up rather than down and has an anemic flush.

Could someone explain why Toto is better than the others?

Do not get Kohler - we redid 3 bathrooms and everyone of the Kohler toilets we installed gets clogged. Ugh!

Will be in market for new toilet in very much older building. Is Toto considered much better able to handle older plumbing and at avoiding clogs? I've been researching and Toto seems very popular in the home decorating sites but I hadn't heard anything about them being more operational than Kohler or American Standard.

Would appreciate any insights. Have a bunch of things to redo and for some reason I really am finding it hard to care about the toilet, as important as it is. The tiles for flooring? Totally different matter--have been all over the sites researching zestfully.

In older houses this is often 10 inches; the standard today is 12 inches. You will find 10 inches at Lowes and Home Depot, but the choice will be much more limited. I think I've seen a Toto where the rough in can be adjusted, but doubt you'd find that on short notice.

Our house was built in the 60s, but the basement bathroom was added recently, 4-5 years ago. I'll check that measurement.

Thanks, PPs. Drake Toto or Kohler, making sure it's the right size.

second toto drake, but Union hardware is a complete ripoff-- there are several plumbing supply stores further up Rockville Pike that should stock toto.

We only get Toto. For the basement I'd get the Toto Drake with G flush. I've mail ordered mine but they typically take more than 2 days. You can try someplace like Union Hardware to see if they are in stock.

The basement toilet needs replacing. Recommend a new toilet. Preferably one we could go buy, today, from a store. Or, if need be, order quickly. My parents are coming to stay with us on Wednesday, and we currently have only one functional toilet.

Drake, American Standard, something else? Model?
