I'm pregnant now, but when I was temping, my temps were also all over the place. Fertility friend could figure out when I was ovulating, though.

I also compared my basal thermometer to a regular thermometer and they were quite different - even if I had them both in my mouth at the same time! My understanding, though, is that regular thermometers are really only good at detecting fevers, while basal thermometers are good at detecting normal range temps (whether they do 100th of a degree or not).

Also, waiting the two minutes or whatever after taking your basal temp with the fever thermometer can change your temp

Correct. Ive also temped in the past and did not experience temps all over the place like I have this month with the CVS therm. I'm talking my temp was 98.2 yesterday and was 97.2 this morning. Like I said, the regular therm read 97.9, which would be normal given where I am in my cycle.

Are you testing at the same time each morning, including weekends? Are you doing it before getting out of bed--no peeing in the middle of the night?

I've been using the purple CVS basal thermometer and my temps have been all over the place. Typically I can pinpoint when I ovulate and I see the shift. This month I've had ewcm but temps all over the place. Up/down by .5.

This morning I was 97.25 on day 22 with the CVS thermo. I was frustrated and used a regular thermometer a few minutes later. It read 97.9! My question is if the basal thermometer does anything special besides displaying the temp at a hundredth of a degree. In other words I can assume my CVS thermometer is shot, right?
