When a "source" runs a story based on nothing but the word of someone who admits to using a false name and doesn't bother with the least bit of collaboration, the source deserves to be denigrated. I assume that you consider it to be top flight reporting?
OK Mr Right Wing Puke Tunnel. Seems to me it's those mainstream papers that go silent every time the truth comes out. See Brown as a good example

Once the story appeared on Power Line, it spread throughout the Internet. It was even reported on DCUM as fact:

The follow-up posts to that post are worth reading in retrospect as a bunch of posters pontificate about how this (false) story demonstrates a pattern of dishonesty on Reid's part.
I have repeatedly criticized the right wing puke funnel in which blogs run rumors which then make their way to more serious press. The guy who made up the story told those to whom he pitched it that he was using a fake name. None of them bothered to confirm his identity or collaborate the story. He even ended up as a guest on Laura Ingraham’s radio show.
Like so much that comes out of the puke funnel, the Reid story will probably never die. It will be interesting to see how many times in the future the it will reappear.

FWIW, I believed Reid's story, given my mother hurt herself pretty badly on a treadmill. Glenn Beck said it was entirely possible that the band broke and he spun and got that kind of injury - he didn't doubt his story. He was a bit confused at the part about Reid saying he was exercising in his bathroom, as it's not really big enough to do so, but Beck felt Reid was being honest.
I do believe Reid is a snake. I believe he is shady. I believe his lies about Romney were beyond reproach. But this is one thing I not only think he told the truth about, but I felt for him, given my Mom.
If you don't believe there is a left wing puke funnel, I suggest you look at Rolling Stone and UVA, as well as the horrible way the left wing media treated the Duke Lacrosse players.
However I think it is essentially a non-story given no one was really hurt by it, not like Romney, those lacrosse boys, and the boys at that frat house.
That's not true at all. The left wing media published quite a few stories about how the prosecutor's story didn't line up. WaPo, NYT, the Raleigh newspaper.
Took a while.
How about Jezabel, Mother Jones, etc?
