Subject: Carpet vs. Wood floors on top floor
Personally, I like the look of hardwood floors with rugs-- who doesn't?
But I prefer carpet for kids. We have hardwoods throughout our whole house...then we finished a room in our basement and put in carpet. Seriously, all my kids want to do is hang out in this one room (it's a study so there aren't even any toys in there) because of the carpet.

Wood. But we just converted our attic into a bedroom for our DS and put carpet down. Because who wants a teenager clomping around on a wood floor above their head.

We have a new build and are enjoying the carpet in the bedrooms and hardwood in the upstairs hallway.

Hardwood
People who prefer carpet can easily add it on top of the hardwood
People who prefer hardwood will think, ugh putting in hardwood is an expensive hassle
Do real wood, though, not cheap laminate or engineered

I like the warmth of carpet but the cleanliness of hardwood floors. Tough decision.

What would you rather have in the bedrooms/upstairs hall if you bought a house? New wall to wall carpeting or hardwood floors.
