almost forgot using materials properly. don't stack crayons to make a tower, or bring the dice over to the block pile and use them to make a chimney, etc.

keep track of his/her belongings. even at the beginning of the year our teacher never helped with any backpack packing, clothes zipping, sneaker tying, etc. lots of kids lost lots of things!

The "criss cross apple sauce" chant drives me nuts.

This covers a lot of it. Being a good friend is another way of saying treat others how you want to be treated.

Being able to manage his own coat and footwear is good. My youngest's K teacher wanted them zipping their own coats ASAP.

Add to this my favorite, "must sit criss-cross apple sauce" when on the carpet learning with classmates. DS liked to instead sit on his legs bended at the knee. For this, yes, I was lectured.

Our ESS gave us some material when we registered. It had info about this and tips to prepare at home. Also this can be asked about at orientation.

I know everyone asks about what academics the kids should be prepared for, and I'm not really worried about that. I am worried about him not being able to sit and listen.

He's in daycare, but they're more laid back about paying attention and calling out during circle time and other "lesson" times. He's never interested in story or music times at the library etc or other organized activities. What should a new kindergartener be expected to be able to do from a maturity/behavioral standpoint? Is there any way to prepare them for that?
