On the AAP web site it is written the orientations will be May 4th-15th. This has been up the entire school year, going well beyond a two week notice. That being the case, your orientation will most likely be during the school day, teachers are not going to put on an orientation during their time off. It is clearly not secret, they just do not want every parent showing up when it does not pertain to every parent. They do not want to answer questions regarding anything other than the ones dealing with AAP Level IV Orientation. Our school already sent out the date of our orientation and states that it is mostly pertinent to parents of those children who are found eligible. This was sent to the whole school. If your child is not eligible it does not say you are not invited.

At our center school, the kids attend. They actually get a separate session from the parents. Kids take a tour of the school while parents get the dog-and-pony show with the principal, AAP teachers and the PTA president. I don't know of any center schools where orientation is parents-only.

Our center has it in the morning on a weekday. Do eligible kids get pulled out of class to attend the orientation?

McNair Elementary has the date posted on their calendar. Thursday, May 7 at 6:30pm. It has been in the evening the past two years as well.

If you can declare yourself as a "sane" parent, not intent in crashing the party (although I think it should be an open meeting), you can share how declaring the date helps both parents of eligible DCS and the school personnel. Otherwise, they'll be giving a briefing over and over at the parents convenience.

If they actually had two weeks notice, it probably wouldn't be a problem. The problem is, if letters don't start arriving until May 1st or 2nd (if mailed out at the very end of April), and the recipient's center holds an orientation at the beginning of the allowed timeline (as early as May 4th), then they may not even have a full business day of notice to give. Certain jobs have the flexibility to leave when you want...as long as you don't have a meeting scheduled. Others will require finding someone to fill in for you if you can't be there.

Of course you can post. You don't ATTEND if you haven't been invited (even then, you could attend if you are just interested in doing it the next year or appealing for this year). It's a PUBLIC school and a PUBLIC event.

They are typically the first week or second week of May. We had about 3 days lead time last year from when we received the letter to when the orientation was held. The orientation completely changed our minds on sending our child -- and it has been for the best. Hasn't been without its bumps this year, but our child is doing very well.... and it wouldn't have happened if we hadn't gone to the orientation.

So, even if you don't find out until a few days before -- I suggest you try to go to the orientation.

I'm not OP but this BS secrecy is BS. It will be held in the next 2 weeks- people have things going on- and what if someone who might appeal wants to go and decide if they'll appeal or not. Fing ridiculous, just like everything else with this program.

I hope if my DC gets in and we send her, I never act like the pompous asses on here about AAP
