The laws in this regard will not change until it begins to adversely affect women who end up shelling alimony or giving up half their assets upon divorce. At that point we will see an outcry by feminists about how unfair the divorce laws are, etc

Uhm, how is the feminism that exists now radical? What's so radical about the gov't telling us what we can/can't do with our bodies? About not having maternity leave? About still making less than men and stepping out of the workforce when we have kids? The fact is that men are less mature and self sufficient than every before (women too, but that doesn't have hte same affect here).

We have to work for pay, meanwhile the guys for the most part slum it on the home front.

We need MORE overall work/life/children equality, not less.

And during the marriage the men seem to feel that it is their prerogative to take in a different way from the woman -- make her compromise on career choices, and make her do the vast majority of the childcare, household work and work of maintaining the joint social life. Women lose work/caereer credits, social security and other credits and basically never recover financially. Plus, at divorce time the woman finds out that the husband never really considered her unpaid work as an equal contribution to the marital assets and the exDH fights her for every penny of joint assets. Pretty much explains why more and more women are choosing to have children outside of marriage.

...funny I touched on this point in this thread http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/460783.page and got flack by a couple PPs.

Truth is, it's not just British men, but increasingly more men throughout the whole Western world. Let's be clear, men "...don’t want to enter into a legal contract with someone who could effectively take half their savings, pension and property when the honeymoon period is over..." The rise of Radical Feminism is not entirely responsible, but it sure influences how Western jurisprudence interpret and how courts rule today! So personally it's not something for me anymore.

Traditional definitions and understandings of family are fast changing in the Western world, and so traditional approaches to marriage will change as well....trust me. But this thread will never be popular around DCUM-ville

Who in their right mind would marry if this is what faces them in the event of a divorce?
