Thank you for all the suggestions. I definitely don't think a few hours of cramps equals endometriosis, and I really don't want to jump to birth control yet if we don't have to. (I was put on birth control at age 14 for an opposite problem... I was having periods every two weeks).

I will see how the next month goes and then check in with the ped if necessary to see if we should follow up with a gyn.

At the first twinge if cramps she needs to take 600-800 mg ibuprofen every 6 hrs for 24 hrs (or however long the cramps usually last). I had horrible cramps as a teen and Advil takes care of the cramps and prevents the vomiting by inhibiting prostaglandins. If it would make you feel better taking her to the gyn, they will NOT do an exam on a 13 yo virgin, but they can help with symptom management and reassurance. Good luck-- I feel for her!

I would talk with her pediatrician and see what he/she says. It is quite normal for periods for teens to take some time to "settle in". However, the vomiting and bad cramps are not necessarily normal. It may be nothing, but I'm sure it's not fun for your DD. There may be some solution that may or may not include going on the pill. See what the doctor says. You may end up at a gynecologist before you'd expect, but get a recommendation for one who is used to working with teenagers and your DD will be fine. My DD had difficult periods and was eventually diagnosed with poly cystic ovarian syndrome. She started seeing a gynecologist, but she didn't have a pelvic exam until she was sexually active (she's much older than your DD...!). Now, this could be because she was diagnosed with a sonogram...not sure if a pelvic exam would be required if something else is suspected.

Good luck and remember that you want to make her more comfortable. Miserable periods are really rough on teenagers.

I dunno, I think the vomiting is a bit much. I think it's worth an appointment, if she's comfortable with it, to rule out endometriosis.

Yup, very normal. That's mine, throw in some upset stomach too but it lasts two days. I would not get her an exam. 600 ibuprofen takes the edge off it.

That is horrible. Take her to an OB/Gyn. Birth control will help with the symptoms.

If she's not sexually active, I wouldn't worry about it.

Wide variation in cycle is very normal, but vomiting is not.

My daughter started her period about 10 months ago. At first her periods were about 3 weeks apart, now the past few cycles have been two months apart. Is this normal for these young teen years?
