As the other poster suggested, the only legitimate means to access IP address information is to be an Admin (only Maria and me) or through the court system. Theoretically, someone could hack the site. I won't say that is impossible but I like to think that I have made it reasonably difficult. We've been running roughly the same architecture since 2007 and have had no known security issues. But, the main thing to keep in mind is that the IP address alone doesn't reveal identity. To link the address to an individual identity still requires accessing either ISP or company records (depending on the source of the connection).

Anyone with access to Jeff's logs would be able to reconstruct who posts what. However, you would have to hack into is server, which (hopefully) is not trivial. I have no desire to try this.

An alternate approach would be to spearfish your way into Jeff's password, but I suspect that type of social engineering would fail. (if you could log in as Jeff, you would have his admin credentials).

Now, if someone really posted something bad, you could go through the court system...but that will be timely and costly.

Hello Jeff

I know that you can access the IP addresses of poster, but can anyone externally to DCUM?

I have noticed some posts like "what is your greatest moral failing" and I am pretty sure people respond to this feeling anonymous, but what if someone had got hold of all our IP addresses and is simply gathering info on us all?

Sorry if this sounds super paranoid!
