Black Market Bistro is extremely noisy, with all the hard surfaces and close-together tables. Luckily, we were able to move to an outside table, which was much quieter...except when the train rumbled by!

Brasserie Monte Carlo (it's a small place on the far side of Bethesda. It's across the street from Calif. Tortilla. It's really small and usually has really good food. It's not your typical Bethesda chain restaurant and off the beaten path.

Persimmon. Great food and great wine.

Unless you get seated at back where that one really large table (meant for parties) is located. Couldn't hear myself let alone my dinner companions.

I second Black's. It's pricey but the food is truly excellent. Atmosphere and service are like Food, Wine & Co. but the food is orders of magnitude better.

I would say Jaleo but it is closed for renovations. Persimmon is nice. Black's is also good.

Food Wine & Co has a nice atmosphere and service. The food is really mediocre though. I had a duck confit something that tasted only of herbs. And the crispy Brussels sprouts weren't.

Lebanese Taverna is a nice space and fairly quiet. Agree with Food Wine & Co. I went to Summer House in "north" bethesda recently. Good food but not exactly quiet.
